On 13 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius had a telephone conversation with the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs Augusto Santos Silva, and discussed quarantine measures implemented in the two countries.

L. Linkevičius invited his Portuguese counterpart to visit Lithuania immediately after the end of the COVID-19 quarantine period. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also thanked Portugal for its contribution to ensuring Lithuania’s security by participating in NATO's Baltic Air Policing Mission and for sending rotational forces to Lithuania.

According to L. Linkevičius, Lithuania started implementing strict quarantine measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus at an early stage. Due to a small number of new cases, the quarantine measures are gradually being relaxed, including the lifting of travel restrictions for the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian citizens among the Baltic states as of 15 May.
