The Ministry of Social Security and Labour and the State Labour Inspectorate of the Republic of Lithuania have been receiving information that unscrupulous employers have been unlawfully collecting funds from employed third-country nationals for the purpose of covering losses which might be inflicted upon the employer in the future, making use of the fact that they do not know Lithuanian laws, do not speak the state language and are afraid of applying to institutions.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė together a group of children from care homes visited Santa Claus in Finland and gave him a package of letters and Christmas drawings. They told him of their biggest wish – to grow up in loving families. The President also gave Santa a special gift – a glass jar of honey from her bee hives.
“NATO enhanced Forward Presence is an effective deterrent that has reinforced the security along the eastern NATO borders at its core, however, with Russia showcasing conventional power increasingly more aggressively, we have to strengthen our collective defence capabilities, namely, to develop regional air defence, to strengthen maritime defence components, and to solve the logistical challenges quick movement of back-up forces into the region faces” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis stated on November 7 in Helsinki at the Northern Group Defence Ministers’ meeting.
On 23 October, the 3d Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Finland was officially opened in Turku. During the opening ceremony, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius said that the new Honorary Consulate would contribute to the promotion of economic and bilateral ties between Lithuania and Finland.
On 23 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini in Helsinki. The two Ministers discussed relations between Lithuania and Finland, the Baltic Sea region’s security situation, issues related to transatlantic cooperation, the Eastern Partnership, situations in Russia and Ukraine.
On 2 October, the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats was officially opened in Helsinki, Finland. The centre was opened and speeches were given by the President of Finland Sauli Niinistö, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and the Prime Minister of Finland Juha Sipilä.
On 1st September, Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Finland warmly welcomed a philosophy doctor, writer and translator Kristupas Sabolius who was invited to participate in a famous philosophy festival A Night of Philosophy that took place in Helsinki contemporary art museum Kiasma.
The XV World Lithuanian Youth Congress (WLYC) took place in Helsinki on 6-7th of July. During the congress the World Lithuanian Youth and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Finland with the congress initiators, the Finnish Lithuanian Youth organisation “SILTA” and the Lithuanian Community in Finland “SLB”, together celebrated the State Day of Lithuania – Coronation Day of King Mindaugas.
