State Day of Lithuania, also known as the day of the coronation of King Mindaugas, is a public holiday in Lithuania celebrated annually on 6 July. It marks an anniversary of the coronation of King Mindaugas, the first and only King of Lithuania, who was crowned on 6 July 1253.
On 24 May, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) received a letter from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius the and the Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas about unresolved nuclear safety issues of the Ostrovets nuclear power plant project.
On 3 May, Lithuania appealed to the European Commission regarding an irresponsible attitude of Belarus towards nuclear safety and international obligations related to the Ostrovets NPP.
Lithuanian Foreign Policy Review (LFPR) – the academic journal was established twenty years ago, in 1998, to discuss the challenges facing Lithuanian foreign policy. Gradually, it moved towards covering the security and foreign policy issues of the countries in Central and Eastern Europe, before expanding again to address the geopolitical and security problems of the entire region. With almost 40 volumes, it has become a well-known platform for debate on these issues. Now, LFPR turns a new leaf by becoming an analytical, rather than an academic, annual publication.

The Lighting of the Christmas Tree Marks the Beginning of the Holiday Season in Lithuania’s Capital
Anticipation was high leading up to the annual lighting of the Christmas tree at Vilnius’ Cathedral Square this evening. Lithuania’s capital has received a lot of global attention over the years for its unique and stunning Christmas Trees, and this year’s creation, which looks like a giant clock from above, certainly did not disappoint.
On November 25th, Ms Hanne Kristiina Orrenmaa became the forth Lithuanian Honorary Consul in Finland with consular jurisdiction over the region of Etelä-Pohjanmaa.

Adolfas Ramanauskas (codename Vanagas) (March 6, 1918 – November 29, 1957) – one of the prominent leaders of the Lithuanian Freedom Fighters (partisans) and a symbol of Lithuania’s resistance against Soviet occupation. After Lithuania regained independence in 1990, Ramanauskas-Vanagas was posthumously awarded the Order of the Cross of Vytis - award conferred for heroic defense of Lithuania's freedom and independence. Ramanauskas-Vanagas' burial site was discovered only in 2018 in Vilnius. State funeral is scheduled for October 6, 2018.
