Lithuania opens its Honorary Consulate in Turku
On 23 October, the 3d Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Finland was officially opened in Turku. During the opening ceremony, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius said that the new Honorary Consulate would contribute to the promotion of economic and bilateral ties between Lithuania and Finland.
The Ambassador of Lithuania to Finland Valdemaras Sarapinas, the Ambassador of Finland to Lithuania Christer Michelsson, and the Mayor of the City of Turku Aleksi Randell welcomed the guests.
An active Finnish businessman Tomis Taipale, head of the company Mamec Oy, has been appointed as Lithuania's Honorary Consul.
The city of Turku was not accidentally chosen. Turku is a city on the southwest coast of Finland. It has a long history as Finland’s largest city and a major seaport in the Baltic Sea region.

On 23 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini in Helsinki. The two Ministers discussed relations between Lithuania and Finland, the Baltic Sea region’s security situation, issues related to transatlantic cooperation, the Eastern Partnership, situations in Russia and Ukraine.
On 2 October, the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats was officially opened in Helsinki, Finland. The centre was opened and speeches were given by the President of Finland Sauli Niinistö, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and the Prime Minister of Finland Juha Sipilä.
On 1st September, Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Finland warmly welcomed a philosophy doctor, writer and translator Kristupas Sabolius who was invited to participate in a famous philosophy festival A Night of Philosophy that took place in Helsinki contemporary art museum Kiasma.
