25th anniversary of Donelaitis Society commemorated in Helsinki
On 14 October in Helsinki, the Donelaitis Society (Donelaitis-seura) commemorating its 25th year anniversary presented its achievements throughout the years and held a seminar ‘The role of societies in today’s Europe’.
Speeches in the seminar were given by Mr Neris Germanas, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, Mr Arūnas Jievaltas, Ambassador of Lithuania to Finland, Ms Riitta Kaivosoja, Director General of the Department for Art and Cultural Policy in the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland, representative of the Association of Finnish Societies Mr Jussi Tuovinen and the Chairman of the Donelaitis Society Prof. Hannu Niemi.
Mr Neris Germanas has expressed his gratitude for the Society’s contribution and support during the establishement of the Embassy of Lithuania in Finland and significant efforts in speading Lithuanian culture and promoting Lithuania’s name in Finland.
Ambassador Arūnas Jievaltas was pleased by achievements of the Society and its cooperation with the Embassy of Lithuania and stressed out the importance of attracting more youth in Society’s work.
