25th Anniversary of Independence of Lithuania was commemorated by a piano concert
On March 13, a piano concert was organized by the Embassy of Lithuania in Finland to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Restoration of Independence of Lithuania. The concert took place in Temppeliaukio Church.
Ambassador of Lithuania Arūnas Jievaltas gave a welcome speech where he presented hard but successful Baltic States’ fight for their freedom 25 years ago and highlighted Lithuania’s achievements throughout the years of independence.
The concert was performed by Gabrielius Alekna, New York based Lithuanian pianist who works with various orchestras around the world, is a holder of dozen of top prizes in competitions on both sides of the Atlantic and is the first Lithuanian to earn a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Juilliard School, NY.
In the concert, G. Alekna performed works by Gabriel Fauré, Vytautas Bacevičius, and Franz Liszt. Nearly 300 guests gathered from various Finnish businesses, cultural and government institutions, foreign embassies in Helsinki and Lithuanian community in Finland.
