Ambassador Edvilas Raudonikis presented the Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Finland
On 5th November 2024, Edvilas Raudonikis, Ambassador of Lithuania to Finland, presented letters of credence to the President of Finland Alexander Stubb. The President of Finland congratulated Ambassador E. Raudonikis on his new duties and wished him a successful service.
Following the ceremony, the President and the Ambassador discussed the ways to expand bilateral relations and co-operation. Ambassador E. Raudonikis underscored responsibility Lithuania and Finland share for the external European Union and Transatlantic community borders, challenges in the region, especially in security and defence domains, hybrid threats, strategic communication, require further strengthening of the ties between our countries.
The Ambassador also brought out current geopolitical threats and Finland's important role in supporting Ukraine: "We greatly appreciate Finland's strong position in supporting Ukraine and Finnish contribution to regional security. Finland's membership in NATO strengthened the security of the Baltic region and opened the way for closer co-operation in defence".
Lithuania and Finland established diplomatic relations in 1919, when Finland de facto recognised Lithuania's independence. Vytautas Jonas Gylys was Lithuania's first representative to Finland in 1919-1921.
