Discussion at the Embassy about the economic and energy security of Lithuania and Finland

The Embassy of Lithuania to Finland organized a seminar titled "Safeguarding Economic and Infrastructure Resilience - Lithuanian and Finnish Experiences and Perspectives." During the event, Lithuania's path to energy and economic independence was presented, Finland's readiness to counter economic threats was reviewed as well as the economic situation in Russia.

Gediminas Šečkus, Chief Resilience Officer, “Lithuanian Railways”, introduced the audience, gathered both physically and remotely, to the FREE Rail program initiated by Lithuanian Railways. The program aims to fully integrate the Lithuanian railway system into the European system. Rokas Masiulis, Chief Executive Officer, “Litgrid”, presented Lithuania's path and achievements in energy independence. Nuutti Nikula, Head of Strategic Support at the Finnish National Emergency Supply Agency discussed the readiness of Finland's public and private sectors to strengthen the country's economic resilience. Dr. Heli Simola, Chief Economist of Bank of Finland, Institute of Emerging Economies, reviewed the economic situation in Russia in the coming years.

The event was moderated by Tomi Kristeri, a fellow researcher at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, who also read a report on economic security strategies and geoeconomic power distribution among countries.

Thanking the participants of the seminar, Ambassador Edvilas Raudonikis pointed out that the resilience of countries is important both as a deterrent and also contributes to creating favorable conditions for business.
