Homage paid to professor August Robert Niemi

On the occasion of the Day of Restoration of the State of Lithuania, the Embassy of Lithuania in Helsinki together with Donelaitis Society (Finnish: Donelaitis-seura) have visited Hietaniemi cemetery and paid homage to professor August Robert Niemi.
Professor A. Niemi is one of the main cultural relations between Finland and Lithuania developer at the beginning of twentieth century. He has visited Lithuania numerous times, shared an interested in Lithuania’s folklore and published its collections, prepared the basis of Lithuanian education system reform. He has also translated the first classic Lithuanian language poem The Seasons (Lithuanian: Metai) into Finnish language.
