January 13th - Day of the Defenders of Freedom
On 13 January the world and ourselves are reminded of the fearless determination of the Lithuanian people to defend their independence and future of their State in the face of military aggression. That day in 1991 people did not give up, unarmed they stood up against tanks and guns to defend Lithuania. 14 Lithuanian defenders of freedom sacrificed to their Motherland the most precious thing they had – their lives. Hundreds were injured.
Let us remember and honor the defenders of Lithuanian freedom, foster the spirit of unity of those days and cherish the freedom of our country!
