Lecture “The Peculiarities of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania in 1917-1918” on November 28th at 6PM, at the Embassy

The Embassy of Lithuania to Finland and the Donelaitis Society – Friends of Lithuania  have the pleasure to invite you to the lecture “The Peculiarities of the Restoration of  the State of Lithuania in 1917-1918”: on Wednesday, 28 November, 2018 at 18:00-20:00 at the Embassy of Lithuania Pohjoisranta 4 A 15, III floor, Helsinki.

The end of WWI brought new perspectives and opened new horizons for Europe. The new historical and political realities in the aftermath of the Great War in Europe led Lithuanians to the 16th of February – the date that became the most significant in Lithuania’s history. In 1918, an independent democratically-run modern civic state was established, together with the restoration of the statehood tradition cherished in the ancient Lithuania (1253-1795). 16 February 1918 is like a bridge between the old Lithuania born on 6 July 1253 and the new independent Lithuania restored on 11 March 1990. Building of the modern Lithuanian state in 1918 was based on the principles of the equality of all, as well as the freedom and prosperity, and this is why all freedom loving people of the country and Lithuanians living abroad, for the first time in the history of Lithuania, became the creators of their state, and later on, during the years of the occupation – the guardians of its tradition.

Speaker:
Prof Dr Alfonsas EIDINTAS, Ambassador-at-large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
