Lithuania and Finland are linked by today's historical challenges and the historical figures of the past
On April 25, Lithuania's Ambassador in Finland, Edvilas Raudonikis, met with the Speaker of Finland's Parliament (Finnish: Eduskunta), Jussi Halla-aho.
During the meeting, Jussi Halla-aho fondly recalled his recent visit to Lithuania for the March 11th celebrations. He emphasized that the geopolitical events of the past three years have brought Finland closer to the Baltic States than ever before, stating in Lithuanian, "Finland is the fourth Baltic country." He highlighted Finland's unwavering support for Ukraine and its efforts to regain territories annexed by Russia, stressing that the support is unquestionable among Finnish politicians and society alike. He assured that Ukraine will be supported for as long as necessary. Halla-aho acknowledged the significant contributions of the Lithuanian Embassy in Finland in recent years in supporting representatives of the Belarusian opposition.
The meeting also covered topics such as the resources allocated to defense by Finland and Lithuania, related decisions, relations with the United States and China, and upcoming high-level visits between Lithuania and Finland. Ambassador Edvilas Raudonikis shared details about Lithuania's cultural programme at the Tampere Art Festivals this year and the Embassy's plans for next year's celebration in Helsinki of the birth anniversary of Catherine Jagiellon, Grand Duchess of Lithuania and Duchess of Finland.
