Lithuania opens its Honorary Consulate in Lohja

The 2nd Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Finland was opened in Lohja, Southern Finland. The Honorary Consulate will help to further advance bilateral economic, academic and scientific relations.

While speaking about the new Honorary Consul of Lithuania, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Finland Arūnas Jievaltas underlined the Honorary Consul’s activities and achievements in advancing ties among different municipalities in Lithuania and Finland, and educational institutions.

The Director of the European Countries Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Vidmantas Purlys said that Lithuania’s new Honorary Consulate in Finland would contribute to closer cooperation between Lithuania and Finland in the fields of business, science and education.

The opening ceremony of Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Lohja was marked by the concert of three Lithuanian pianists studying in Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in Tallinn. The programme was followed by a friendly basketball match between Finnish and Lithuanian basketball teams in Kisakallio, the official training center for the Finnish Basketball Federation.

Since the restoration of Lithuania’s independence, Karvinen has been actively involved in the implementation of joint Lithuanian-Finnish projects.
