Lithuanian Culture Day in Tampere
On 16 November 2021 Kaunas name was in the air in Tampere as the program devoted to present Kaunas - the European Capital of Culture 2022 (KEKS 2022) - took place in this Finnish city. The programme encompassed presentation “A Teleport to Kaunas – one Big European Stage 2022” and the opening of the interwar Kaunas architecture photography exhibition “My Modernism” (photographer Martynas Plepys) in Tampere Municipality. These events were followed by a concert of charismatic Lithuanian musicians Gleb Pyšniak (cello) and Tadas Motiečius (accordion) at the Tampere Concert Hall "Laikku".
Participants were welcomed by the Vice-Mayor of Tampere Johanna Loukaskorpi, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Finland Giedrius Kazakevičius and the Honorary Consul of Lithuania Matti Arpiainen.
After the demonstration in Tampere the photo exhibition "My Modernism" will travel to other places in Finland.
The program to present the KEKS 2022 in Finland was organised by the Lithuanian Embassy in Finland in cooperation with the Municipality of Tampere, Matti Arpiainen, Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Tampere, Liana Ruokyte-Jonsson, Lithuanian Culture Attaché to Sweden, Denmark and Finland, supported by the Lithuanian Culture Institute.
Tampere and Kaunas are twin cities, a cooperation agreement in the fields of environment, youth exchanges, transport, culture, health and education between the cities was signed in 1997.
