More about films:

NOVEMBER 6, 18.00

  • SENGIRĖ The Ancient Woods

2017 │ 86 min. │ Documentary │Director: Mindaugas Survila

A poetic and atypical nature film takes its viewers on the endless journey – from the forestthickets to the wolves’ caves and up to black stork’s nest, and then deep into the water to the underwater forest, returning after to the human beings inhabiting the edge of the woodland. There is no commentary, only rich, almost palpable sounds of the forest and the magical situations captured by the camera. Filmed in one of the last remaining patches of old growth forest in Lithuania, "The Ancient Woods" is a place where the boundaries of time melt and everything that exists does not wither or age but “grows into” eternity.

Discussion with the director Mindaugas Survila after the screening.

The year 1992. Lithuania is already independent. One day at her workplace, a factory worker Danguole wins the SPECIAL prize. She and her family are to represent the New Lithuania to the world in a photo reportage to be issued. This way the factory worker Danguole becomes a kind of a Lithuanian ambassador. Obviously, everything she owns is dated, soviet-tinged and cannot represent anything. The New Lithuania should be newly fashioned. The problem is... what exactly does the 'newly fashioned' mean?
