May 3 Constitution celebration in Helsinki
The Embassy of Lithuania to Finland and the Embassy of Poland to Finland for the first time together celebrated the anniversary of the Constitution of the Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth of 3 May 1791. The reception took place in the Finnish House of Nobility (Ritarihuone), on the 7th of the May.
The ambassador of Lithuania Valdemaras Sarapinas and the Ambassador of Poland Jaroslaw Suchoples congratulated guests: fellows of Lithuania and Poland, representatives of Lithuanian and Polish communities, diplomats of foreign countries, public figures and representatives of business organizations.
The ambassador of Lithuania Valdemaras Sarapinas emphasized the nowadays importance of aims of the Constitution of May 3 and its inspiration of strengthening bilateral relations and partnership between Lithuania and Poland.
The ambassador of Lithuania Valdemaras Sarapinas has stated: ‘Lithuania and Poland, continuing the tradition of the past, are strategic partners in the region, EU and NATO, who intensively co-operate in the fields of economic, energy, transport etc.’
The duet of pianist Mindaugas Neverovas and violoncellist Johannes Tepp, also Polish performers were performing the works of Lithuanian, Polish, Finnish and other compositors.
Furthermore, the seminar of the embassies of Lithuania and Poland was organized on the occasion of adoption of the Constitution of May 3.
Constitution of May 3, 1791 - was Europe’s first written that became the standard of various modern constitutions.
