SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS’

LITHUANIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE SUMMER COURSES IN 2009

The Education Exchanges Support Foundation takes pleasure to offer the scholarships for Lithuanian language and culture summer courses (3-4 weeks) organized by three higher education institutions in summer 2009:

1.      Summer language and culture courses at Vilnius University (www.vu.lt) during 29 June – 24 July 2009.

2.      Summer language and culture courses at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas (www.vdu.lt) during 21 July – 14 August 2009.

3.      Summer language and culture courses at Vilnius Pedagogical University (www.vpu.lt) during 29 July – 24 August 2009.

All these institutions of higher education offer language studies on the beginners, intermediate and advanced levels.

Having chosen these studies, foreign nationals would not only have a possibility to study Lithuanian as a foreign language, but also get acquainted with Lithuanian literature, history, folklore, economy, social and political life of Lithuania and learn more about the culture of Baltic countries.

Applicants are free to choose the institution and are encouraged to specify the level of the knowledge of the Lithuanian language (if any) in the application forms. They will be registered to the courses immediately after the award of the scholarship is approved by the Commission of International studies. CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

-      The candidate has to be a student, lecturer or researcher in one of the following countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, India, Iceland, Israel, Hungary, Latvia, Mongolia, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Finland, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.

-      The candidate has to motivate his/her purpose to study Lithuanian language and culture.

-      Those students who come to study to Lithuania under the Erasmus programme can't apply for the Lithuanian state scholarship.

FINANCIAL CONDITIONS

The scholarship granting is competitive. Successful candidates:

-      Will receive a monthly allowance of:

o       1950 Lt (~565 EUR) – for students of all levels;

o       3250 Lt (~942 EUR) – for researchers and lecturers.

-      Will be exempted from tuition and registration fees;

-     Will be provided with accommodation payable by a scholarship holder.

METHOD OF THE APPLICATION

Applications should be prepared on special application form (form is available from the website www.smpf.lt/scholarships) and contain documents (in Lithuanian or English or with certified translations into one of these languages) listed below in the order given:

1. Application form.

2. Letter of interest.

3. Certified copy of a diploma and/or transcript of academic records (for students), a copy of a diploma of a research degree (for teachers and researchers).

4. Curriculum vitae.

5. Two reference letters from the applicant’s home institution.

6. Evidence of enrolment or employment at a higher education and research institution of the home country.

7. Certificate attesting the knowledge of the Lithuanian.

8. List of publications (for postgraduate students, teachers and researchers).

9. Copy of the valid travel document.

Documents should be submitted in two identical sets (original and a copy).

Documents sent by fax or e-mail will not be accepted. Incomplete applications or postmarked after the deadline will not be considered!

Deadline for application submission: April 1, 2009.

Commission of International Studies authorized by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania to make proposals concerning the award of state scholarships for foreign nationals shall consider applications of the nominees observing the requirements provided for in the call for applications. The applicants will be informed about the decision concerning the awards by 1 June 2009.
