SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS TO LITHUANIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE SUMMER COURSES IN 2008

In summer 2008, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania calls for applications for Lithuanian language and culture summer courses (3-4 weeks) in the higher education institutions of Lithuania. Having chosen these studies, foreign nationals would not only have a possibility to study Lithuanian as a foreign language, but also get acquainted with Lithuanian literature, history, folklore, economy, social and political life of Lithuania and learn more about the culture of Baltic countries.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

-      The candidate has to be a student, lecturer or researcher in one of the following countries: Belgium (Walloon region), Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, India, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Mongolia, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Finland, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan;

-      The candidate has to motivate his/her purpose to study Lithuanian language and culture.

FINANCIAL CONDITIONS

The scholarship granting is competitive. Successful candidates:

-      receive a monthly allowance of:

o       1950 Lt (~565 EUR) – for undergraduate, master and doctoral students;

o       3250 Lt (~942 EUR) – for researchers and lecturers (scholarships for foreign lecturers and researchers could be taxed in accordance with legislation in force).

-      are exempted from tuition and registration fees;

-      are provided with accommodation payable by a scholarship holder.

APPLICATION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Applicants must submit the following documents:

-      application form (Application for a state scholarship for Lithuanian language and culture summer courses 2008);

-      a certified diploma copy with supplement and (or) transcripts of academic records (for students);

-      an official letter from home country institution approving a status of a student, lecturer or researcher;

-      two recommendation letters from home country institution of higher education and research;

-      Curriculum Vitae;

-      a list of scientific works and publications (for lecturers and researchers);

-      a photocopy of the passport;

-      a certificate attesting the knowledge of Lithuanian.

The documents should be submitted in Lithuanian or English (or with translations into one of these languages) in two sets (original and copy).

Deadline for application submission: May 1, 2008.

The applications are screened and considered by the Commission for International Studies, formed by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania.

GENERAL INFORMATION

-      Documents of the recommended candidate should be submitted through home institution responsible for higher education.

-      Documents sent by fax or e-mail will not be accepted.

-      Incomplete applications or postmarked after the deadline will not be considered.

-      Applicants will be informed of the results no later than 2 months after the document submission deadline.
