The awards of Lithuania delivered to the Embassy of Lithuania for the deposition
The chairman of the Donelaitis Society prof. Hannu Niemi on February 16, 2017 delivered the awards of his grandfather Aukusti Robert Niemi to the State of Lithuania for the deposition.
The following awards of Lithuania, acquired on 1928, were handed at the Embassy of Lithuania in Helsinki: the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas and Independence Medal issued to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Republic (1918 – 1928).
Following the annual tradition the Ambassador of Lithuania to Finland Valdemaras Sarapinas together with the Donelaitis Society and Finnish-Lithuanian Trade Association visited Helsinki Hietaniemi cemetery to honor the memory of prof. Aukusti Robert Niemi.
The ambassador expressed his thankfulness of this continuing tradition and fellowship with the Donelaitis Society.
Professor Aukusti Robert Niemi propagated the name of Lithuania in Finland at the beginning of 20th century. He collected Lithuanian folklore and published folklore collections, as well as prepared the grounds of Lithuanian Education Reform
