The Centennial of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania commemorated in Helsinki

The Centennial of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania was celebrated with the concert at Rock Church of Helsinki (Temppeliaukion Kirkko) on the 16th of the February.

Orchestra of Lappeenranta and conductor Vytautas Lukočius, soloists Ona Kolobovaitė and  Liudas Mikalauskas from Lithuania, and trumpeters Tomas Gricius and Jonas Šilinskas performed musical pieces of Finnish and Lithuanians composers.

Ambassador of Lithuania Valdemaras Sarapinas in the speech highlighted importance of the Centennial of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania and emphasized that statehood, restored hundred year ago, is the most important event in the history of our country. Furthermore, the history of modern Lithuania is the history of success.

Friends of Lithuania, diaspora of Lithuanians in Finland, diplomats of foreign countries, figures and representatives from culture, media, society and business organizations sphere, gathered in this festive concert of the 16th of the February.

Finlandia Hall - congress and concert hall that was designed by legendary Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, and one of the symbols of Helsinki - was lighted by colours of Lithuanian flag in the evening of the 16th of February.

The building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland was decorated with the colours of Lithuanian flag as well.

Authorities and various instituions in Finland have honored the Centennial of Lithuania by raising Finnish flags on this occasion.
