The Embassy of Lithuania commemorated January 13 – Stand for Freedom
Lithuanians community in Finland gathered for commemoration of the Defenders of Freedom Day in the Embassy of Lithuania in Helsinki. Evening started with a historical documentary movie „ An extraordinary sacrifice“, which was directed by Agnė Zalanskaitė. This movie is for memorizing leader of partisans, colonel Juozas Vitkus-Kazmieraitis - initiator of resistance war in Lithuania.
Ambassador of Lithuania to Finland Valdemaras Sarapinas emphasized that the 13th of January is and will always be one of the most important historical date in times of modern Lithuania, when because of solidarity, sacrifice of nation and citizens, our freedom was defended.
Members of Lithuanians in Finland community joined to XXVII traditional international tribute run „By road of Life and Death“ and participated in running 2 and 6 km on the 13th of January.
This way, they honored victims of the 13th of January events-people, who died from injuries, made when soviet military units assaulted TV tower of Vilnius and building of Commitee of Radio and television, on the 13th of January in 1991.
Participants of the run, who overcomed the distance, was rewarded with remembrance medals of the run. These, who gathered, also was treated with soup and shared their minds and memories about the events of the 13th of January.
