The Tall Ships' Races 2017 in Finland

Ambassador of Lithuania to Finland Valdemaras Sarapinas on 12th of July visited the international races for sail training tall ships – The Tall Ships' Races 2017 in Kotka.

The Tall Ships' Races 2017 in Finland is one of the most spectacular events of Finland’s 100-anniversary. The ambassador greeted the Lithuanian tall ships and wished good luck and favorable winds for captains and crew members from Lithuania. The tradition of The Tall Ships' Races has cherished for over 70 years. The races are designed to encourage international friendship and training for young people in the art of sailing.

In Kotka Lithuania is represented by two teams: the Klaipėda University scientific research sailing vessel “Brabander” (captain Valdemaras Vizbaras) and the legendary yacht “Lietuva” (captain Osvaldas Kudzevičius) which had circumnavigated the world in 1989. On 22nd of July the Lithuanian military seafarer ship “Kuršis” (captain lieutenant Donatas Gečas) will join the races in the harbor of Turku.

The route of The Tall Ships' Races 2017: Halmstad–Kotka–Turku–Klaipėda–Szczecin. There will be a three-day celebration that will take place in every city. From 29th of July to 1st of August the tall ships will sail to the harbor of Klaipėda, where people will be able to admire the impressive parade of the tall ships.
